Three Named All-Region by Daktronics
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Three Southern Illinois University Edwardsville players were named to the 2007 Daktronics Women's Soccer All-Great Lakes Region team.
Kelly Limpert (St. Charles, Mo.) and Elizabeth Valenti (Overland Park, Kan.) were named to the first team and will be placed on the national ballot for All-American consideration. Katie Yearian (Waterloo) was named to the second team.
The trio have been an integral part of SIUE's run to the NCAA Tournament. As a No. 2 seed, SIUE, 13-4-1, will play the winner of the first-round NCAA game between Drury and West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Korte Stadium.
The Daktronics All-Region team was voted on by the region's sports information directors. The region includes institutions from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Limpert, a marking back, currently leads the team with seven assists. The Cougar junior also has taken 16 shots this season.
Valenti, also a junior, is tied as the team leader in scoring with nine goals and five assists. She is second in shots with 35. Valenti was named the GLVC's Player of the Week on Oct. 8 when she scored a natural hat trick in a victory over NCAA Tournament-bound Quincy.
Yearian, a senior forward, is tied with Valenti for the team lead in scoring with nine goals and five assists as well as her three game-winning goals. She was named the GLVC's Player of the Week back on Sept. 17.
