Top-Seeded Cougars Advance with 3-1 Win
         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Top-seeded and No. 16-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's soccer advanced to the Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinals Sunday with a 3-1 win over Saint Joseph's.
         SIUE, 13-3-1, will be the host institution for next week's GLVC Tournament semifinals and finals at Korte Stadium. SIUE will face fifth-seeded Missouri-St. Louis at 7 p.m. Third-seeded Drury and second-seeded Quincy meet at 4:30 p.m.
         The Cougars tied a school record with its 10th consecutive victory, matching winning streaks from the 1998 and the 2005 seasons.
         Chelsey Johnston put SIUE ahead in the first half, stealing the ball and scoring from 20 yards out unassisted at 38:26.
         Saint Joseph's, outshot by the Cougars 20-6, made the most of an opportunity at 47:44 when Ashley Van Slooten scored off a steal unassisted. The Pumas finished the season with an 8-10-1 record.
         It didn't take take the Cougars long to make it 2-1. Katie Yearian, a first team All-GLVC selection, scored her ninth of the season from 10 yards out on a pass from Jennifer Kratzer just 17 seconds later.
         SIUE put the game out of reach at 67:34 when Sade Akpore scored inside the box on a rebound from Kiara Akpore. Kelly Limpert also earned her team-leading seventh assist, serving the ball on a corner kick.
         SIUE found balance in its offensive attack. The Cougars had 11 different players take the team's 20 shots.
