SIUE’s Valenti Honored as GLVC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
Junior Midfielder Leads Cougars Past 21st-ranked Quincy, 3-1

         INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Elizabeth Valenti (Overland Park, Kan.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior midfielder provided all of the offense in the Cougars’ 3-1 upset of 21st-ranked Quincy on Sunday.
         Valenti posted a hat trick in the win and pushed the Cougars into sole possession of first place in the GLVC standings at 9-2.
         She attempted five shots in the contest and converted all three of her shots on goal. Her first score came in the 25th minute on an assist from Kelly Limpert and provided the Cougars’ a 1-0 halftime advantage.
         Valenti quickly iced the match for SIUE in the second half by converting goals in the 51st and 80th minute to supply the Cougars with a 3-0 lead. She scored her second goal unassisted and was assisted on the third by Kiara Akpore.
         The three goals push Valenti into a tie for the team lead in scoring with eight goals and five assists. Teammate Katie Yearian has posted identical numbers for the Cougars this season.
         SIUE (10-3-1) has clinched a berth into the GLVC Tournament and will look to extend its seven-match winning streak in a home match versus McKendree on Wednesday.
         Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Bellarmine’s Alissa Reuther, Lewis’ Bethanee Taylor, Missouri-Rolla’s Janine Einhellig, Northern Kentucky’s Cara Alldred, Rockhurst’s Lisa Schwarz, UIndy’s Ashley Seehase and UW-Parkside’s Kelly Teeters.
