October 9, 2007 SIUE Women's Soccer Awaits No. 21 Quincy Neither Southern Illinois University Edwardsville nor Quincy has a women's soccer game until Sunday. Both teams will have ample rest and time to recover and prepare physically and mentally for Sunday's 1p.m. contest that will determine who moves into first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with only two more league games to follow. "They have to travel. That's the only difference I see," said SIUE coach Lynda Bowers. Both SIUE and 21st-ranked Quincy are 8-2 in GLVC play. Quincy is 11-3-1 overall while SIUE holds a 9-3-1 record. SIUE had been strong on the offensive end with 31 goals in 13 games. That includes six different players who scored this past weekend. Midfielder Elizabeth Valenti (Overland Park, Kan.) was the only player able to score more than once. Katie Yearian (Waterloo) leads the team in scoring with eight goals and five assists. Seven different players have two or more goals this season. "Maybe it makes our team harder to defend," noted Bowers. "We're going to take it to our opponents. "To be successful we're going to need to try to improve our game." -siue cougars- |
