SIUE Women's Soccer Begins Two-Game Road Trip
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - For Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's soccer, the upcoming road trip against Ferris State and Grand Valley State is expected to be a difficult and emotional one.
The Cougars, 0-0-1 after a 1-1 tie Sunday against Newberry, travel to Big Rapids, Mich., to face Ferris State at 4 p.m. (ET) Friday. SIUE continues the trip with a Sunday matchup at Grand Valley State with game time set for Noon (ET).
"Ferris has done some good things in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), and we expect this to be a tough match for our team," said SIUE coach Lynda Bowers.
Grand Valley State has been a thorn in SIUE's side for many years. It has been six years since SIUE defeated the Lakers. Last year, the Cougars and the Lakers battled to a double overtime 0-0 tie.
"Going into the match against Grand Valley, there will be a lot of emotions. It should be a good one."
SIUE's first home match of the season is Friday, Sept. 7th against Kentucky Wesleyan. The contest starts at 5 p.m. That game also marks the opening of the Great Lakes Valley Conference season.
