Short Week Does Not Concern Cougars
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Despite having a short practice week, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling team still expects to be ready for their two meets this week.
"With only two good practices this week it is a bit frustrating, but it that time of year. We've all been wrestling for a long time and we understand that this happens and we still need to be ready to compete," said coach Pat McNamara.
The Cougars will travel to McKendree University to take on the Bearcats Wednesday in a dual meet. First whistle for the meet is 7 p.m.
Last year, McKendree defeated SIUE 25-12. McKendree leads the all-times series against SIUE 1-3.
After McKendree, the Cougars will reload and prepare for the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Mo., on Saturday.
Because of the short time between the meets, coach McNamara will primarily focus on maintaining the weight of the wrestlers.
"With the two meets being so close together we have to really focus on keeping the guys weight under control," said McNamara.
SIUE wrestling fans can next see the Cougars at home on Thursday, Feb. 7 when they take on Central Missouri.
