McKendree Defeats Cougars 25-12
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Tanner Wolk's quick pin of Jacob Petri put McKendree over the top in a 25-12 wrestling victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
McKendree improved to 6-5 in dual meets. SIUE fell to 3-8.
A crowd of more than 600 fans watched as the Cougars honored nearly 20 former SIUE wrestlers who went on to coach at the high school level. Several former SIUE All-Americans were in attendance to be honored and cheer on the Cougars.
The Bearcats took the first three matches of the night as Jermaine Waye earned a come-from-behind victory over Tommy Hill at 125 pounds. Mike Miller added a 12-0 win over Nicholas Shumate at 133 pounds. And Kyle Jahn topped Nathan Decker 11-5.
SIUE stormed back with three straight wins. Jed Lewis downed Dominic Angelo 9-4. Joe Rujawitz edged Aaron Winning 3-2. John Ficht controlled Rick Cook 6-1.
The Bearcats took a four-point lead at 13-9 when Brandon Wyms topped Daniel Midgett 5-2 at 174 pounds.
SIUE was put out of reach at 184 pounds on the McKendree pin. Petri looked as if he would get the early takedown, but Wolk made a quick reversal and put Petri down.
Sean Tyus would earn SIUE's other victory at 197 pounds with a 5-3 win over Andrew Sanchez. McKendree earned a forfeit at heavyweight.
