Ficht, Lewis Lead Cougars

          John Ficht (Burbank) and Jed Lewis (Norfolk, Neb.) led the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling team over the weekend at the Midwest Classic.
          The Cougars placed 15th as a team even with a handful of wrestlers out due to injury.
          Ficht placed fifth in the 165-pound weight class while Lewis placed sixth in the 149-pound weight class.
          "It is hard to keep in shape over the holidays, and that showed at the Midwest Classic," said SIUE wrestling Coach Khris Whelan.
          Next up for the Cougars is a triangular match against Truman State and Minnesota State-Mankato at Truman State at 3 p.m. in Kirksville, Mo. Jan. 20.
          "The next two weeks we will be trying to get out timing back and get out focus back," said Whelan. "We need to get back to the basics."
