February 13, 2006 Wrestling Hosts Central Missouri The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling team entertains Central Missouri tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center. Following the match with the Mules, the Cougars will travel to nationally ranked Central Oklahoma on Saturday. “It doesn’t get any easier,” said SIUE wrestling coach Khris Whelan. “They are both tough.” The Cougars, 0-11 on the season, fell to William Penn 46-3 and Eastern Illinois 38-15 last Saturday. “When you give up three weight classes and six of your starters are hurt it makes it tough,” said Whelan. John Ficht (Burbank) has a 21-14 record on the year at 165 pounds. Ficht notched two wins over the weekend. “John has been Mr. Consistency for us,” said Whelan. Joe Rujawitz (Belleville) went 1-1 on the weekend at 149 pounds and now leads the team with 23-12 mark this season. “Whomever I put on the mat I just want them to perform to the best of their ability,” said Whelan. -siue cougars- |
