Cougars Visits McKendree
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling team travels to Lebanon for a match with McKendree on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
After the contest with the Bearcats, the Cougars will be at the Wheaton Invitational this weekend.
“It will be a tough match (against McKendree),” said SIUE wrestling coach Khris Whelan. “They are going to have to step up. It is not going to get any easier.”
Last weekend, SIUE finished in third place out of 11 teams at the Wheaton Invitational.
“They did quite well,” said Whelan. “That was the perfect tournament for us. They got to enjoy some success this past weekend.”
The Cougars were led by Omari Johnson (Chicago), who won his tournament at 174 pounds. Johnson now has a record of 6-2 on the year.
“He wrestled great,” said Whelan. “He rose to the occasion.”
Sean Tyus (Springfield) also finished in first place at 197 pounds. Tyus improved his mark to 8-13 on the season.
“He went out and wrestled hard,” said Whelan. He wouldn’t be denied.”

Rashad Riley (Hoffman Estates) also came in second place at 133 pounds. Riley now had a 10-4 mark for the season.
