SIUE Begins Search for Part-Time Wrestling Coach
(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.) Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will begin a search for a part-time wrestling coach for the 2004-05 season.
The wrestling program was to be eliminated after the 2003-04 season because of a budget shortfall, but with the help of several dedicated supporters and alumni, the program has been maintained on the intercollegiate level, funded primarily by private contributions.
Other cost containment measures already have been taken to run the wrestling program with available fund-raised dollars, said Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt.
"This prudent fiscal move adheres to the objective of maintaining the program as long as possible. Making the head coach position a 25 to 50 percent appointment effectively allows us to maintain the program and continue to provide positive direction for the incoming student-athletes," said Hewitt.
The position requires an earned bachelor's degree, evidence of strong organizational and communication skills and current knowledge of NCAA regulations. The wrestling coach also should have proven successful playing and/or coaching experience of at least four years and show evidence of a commitment to academic excellence.
