Wrestling Faces Lindenwood, Truman State
SIUE wrestling coach Booker Benford said his team continues to improve as the season progresses. This week’s match at Lindenwood on Wednesday and a noon home match on Sunday should help boost the team’s confidence.
“If we wrestle well, we can win both matches,” Benford said. “Keeping the full lineup is a key for us. We’re not giving away six points as often as we have been in the past.”
The 6-4 Cougars most recently took one of three in a quadrangular meet with William Penn, Illinois and McKendree. SIUE defeated William Penn 21-18 before falling to No. 1-ranked Illinois 50-0 and local rival McKendree 20-19.
Freshman 149-pounder Joe Rujawitz (Belleville) leads the Cougars with a 28-12 record. Sean Tyus (Springfield), also a freshman, is 20-13 to begin the week.
