SIUE Women's Golf Team Goes to IWU Saturday
After a sixth-place finish at the Ferris State Invitational and a seventh-place finish GVSU Fall Classic, the SIUE women's golf team heads to Bloomington for the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic.
New women's head coach Jennifer Jakel feels positive after the first two events of the season.
"We have a strong group of girls who have a lot of talent, and they all have the ability to shoot in the 70s," said Jakel.
Senior standout Ashley Hemann (Highland) came in strong for the Cougars at the Grand Valley State Fall Classic with a final round four under par 68.
"In doing so is also broke the school record for an 18 hole round and tied the 36 hole record," added Jakel.
Other top Cougar golfers include freshmen Olivia Fox (Smithton) with a 81.25 scoring average through the first four rounds, along with Sheena Collins (Edwardsville) with a 82.25 scoring average through four rounds and Julie Cline (Decatur) with a 85.75 scoring average also in four rounds.
Jakel said she hopes the Cougars can improve their regional standing as the year progresses, said Jakel.
