Harrison Leads Women's Golf To a Solid Start
         Hold your ground.
That's all Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's golf coach Mark Marcuzzo expected from the Cougars this past weekend at the Northern Kentucky University Spring Invitational.
SIUE placed sixth with a score of 336, tying Indianapolis at the rain-shortened, 18-hole event at Perry Park Golf Club. Grand Valley State walked away with the team title with a 303.
"I think we held our position in the bid for the NCAA Regionals," said Marcuzzo.
SIUE is hoping to gain one of the six spots at the NCAA Regional Championships on May 2-3 in Allendale, Mich.
Kallie Harrison (Decatur) lowered her team-leading scoring average to 76.7 with an even-par 72 at Perry Park. She tied Grand Valley State's Enid Gage for first place. Brittany Hood (Coulterville) tied for 30th after shooting an 83.
"Conditions were wet (at NKU), but Kallie played well. Brittany played really well, too," said Marcuzzo.
SIUE's next event is Illini Spring Classic on April 8-9 at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana.
