SIUE Women's Golf Signs Decatur's Harrison
Kallie Harrison, of Decatur, has signed a national letter of intent to play golf for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
SIUE women's golf Coach Larry Bennett said Harrison has the potential to make an immediate impact on SIUE's lineup next season.
"She's probably going to come in and help immediately," said Bennett. "She could push one of next year's seniors for a spot next season."
Harrison will join SIUE from Decatur St. Teresa High School. She was a three-time state qualifier, finishing tied for 19th in her senior season at the state championships. She posted a final round 76, one of the best rounds of the 2002 36-hole tourney.
Harrison has been among the top 25 golfers in the state of Illinois for the last three seasons and the top 20 in both her junior and senior seasons.
She also earned a Presidential Scholarship at SIUE. Under the Presidential Scholars Program, freshmen from Illinois high schools who have superior academic records, evidence of academic leadership, and have Advanced Placement and honors course credits, are eligible. Harrison is among 11 Presidential Scholars for 2003-2004 who have an average ACT score of 32.4 and who are academically ranked in the top 2 percent of their high school class.
"We expect good things from her in the next four years," Bennett said.
