Cougars, Farrell Leading GLVC Tourney
Katie Farrell fired a 2-under 70 and is the leader after day one of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Golf Tournament.
SIUE is leading the tournament after it fired a school-record 301. It has an 18-shot advantage over second-place Indianapolis.
Farrell's 70 is a school-record and is tied for the lowest score in GLVC Tournament history. It is also the first sub-par round by a player in school history.
SIUE's team score of 301 also broke the GLVC Tournament team-score record.
Freshman Kallie Harrison, who shot a 75 that included a 34 on the front nine, sits in third place.
Brittany Hood's 76 is good for a tie for fourth. Brittany Auld fired an 80 to tie for 12th.
Reigning GLVC champ Kacy Gruenkemeyer is tied for 24th after day one after shooting an 85.
The Cougars, who have never claimed a GLVC title as a team, will be in the driver's seat tomorrow when day-two gets underway at Timbergate Golf Course in Edinburgh, Ind.
