SIUE Golfers Place Third at GLVC Tournament
EDINBURGH, Ind. -- Katie Farrell finished sixth as she led the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's golf team to a third-place finish at the 2001 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
Indianapolis won the two-day tournament at the par 72 Timbergate Golf Course with a score of 647. Northern Kentucky, which led the 10-team tournament after 18 holes, slipped to a second-place finish with 649. SIUE didn't give any ground on third place with a 684. Next was Quincy with 691.
The Cougars had not finished better than sixth in the 10-team tournament in the GLVC's four years of women's golf championships.
Farrell, a sophomore from Princeton, shot a 21-over-par 165 in the 36-hole tournament. Her sixth-place finish was just short of earning automatic All-GLVC honors. Farrell can gain All-GLVC honors as she did last season with a low scoring average following the spring season.
Deanna Bock, a junior from Edwardsville, played steady with an 85-84 to tie for 11th place overall. Brittany Auld, a sophomore from Nashville, finished tied for 17th with a 174. Kacy Gruenkemeyer, a sophomore from Salem, tied for 20th with a 176. Kristi Novak, a sophomore from Highland, was 36th overall with a 189.
