December 19, 2007 SIUE Dominates Illinois-Springfield EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Jessie Stapleton and Amber Shelton both recorded double-doubles Wednesday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville dominated Illinois-Springfield 85-58 in women's college basketball action. SIUE improved to 7-2 as Stapleton recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds. Shelton led all scorers with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Whitney Sykes pumped in 15 points for SIUE, including four three-pointers. Brittany Imig collected a career-high 12 points. Bethany Borrenpohl powered Illinois-Springfield off the bench with 14 points. The Prairie Stars are now 4-9. The Cougars overpowered the Prairie Stars from the beginning, running up a 54-28 lead by halftime. SIUE shot 56.7 percent in the first half. Illinois-Springfield struggled from the field in the second half, shooting just 22.6 percent (7 of 31). The Prairie Stars couldn't overcome SIUE's offensive attack that produced 10 three-pointers. All 11 SIUE players who played scored at least one basket. SIUE is now idle until Jan. 3 when it takes on Missouri Baptist in a 3 p.m. game at the Vadalabene Center. -siue- |
