Road Trip Ends with Loss at Quincy
QUINCY, Ill. -- The road woes continued Tuesday for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball team.
Quincy's Jessica Keller posted a triple-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in a 98-82 victory over the Cougars. SIUE is now 15-9 overall and 8-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after losing four out of its last five games all on the road.
Thursday's return to the Vadalabene Center will be a welcome one for the Cougars. SIUE faces Southern Indiana at 5:30 p.m. It's "Think Pink" Night where anyone who wears pink to the game gets in free. The event, in coordination with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, is to help increase breast cancer awareness. Fans also can have an opportunity to make donations to fight breast cancer.
On Tuesday, SIUE couldn't stop a Quincy offense that shot 63.3 percent in the second half. Janette Burgin finished as the game's leading scorer with 22 points, including six three-pointers. The Hawks, now 16-8 overall and 11-5 in the GLVC, had five players in double figures.
SIUE's Whitney Sykes posted a team-leading 17 points. Jessie Stapleton chipped in 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Amber Shelton and Brittany Imig added 14 each.
The Cougars made the most of their free throws, connecting on 22 of 25 for the game. SIUE didn't shoot as well from the field, making 40 percent of its shots from the field for the game.
