February 2, 2008 SIUE Trips Up Tritons EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Jessie Stapleton made the most of her first start for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball. The junior forward scored 14 points and completed the double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds as SIUE defeated Missouri-St. Louis 83-70 Saturday at the Vadalabene Center. SIUE, now 14-5 overall and 7-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, had four players in double figures against the Tritons, which fell to 5-13 overall and 3-8 in the GLVC. Amber Shelton finished as SIUE's leading scorer with 18 points. Brittany Imig turned in one of her biggest games off the bench with 13 points. Elyse Morris recorded her fourth straight double-digit scoring effort with 10 points. Courtney Watts paced the Tritons with 21 points. SIUE shot 50.9 percent for the game and held UMSL to 35.3 percent shooting. The Cougars return to action Thursday, traveling to Lewis for a 5:30 p.m. game at Lewis. -siue- |
