January 17, 2008 Indianapolis Outlasts SIUE 67-66 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Samantha Meissel scored five unaswered points in the final 90 seconds Thursday as Indianapolis edged Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 67-66 in women's Great Lakes Valley Conference basketball action. The Cougars suffered their second straight one-point loss and fell to 10-4 overall and 3-3 in the GLVC. SIUE held a four-point lead with a minute to play when Meissel hit a three-point with 42 seconds left. After a Cougar turnover, Meissel followed it up with a jumper with 24 seconds left. Amber Shelton dominated Indianapolis for 30 points and six rebounds. Indianapolis Isabell Rhenwrick and Jessica Canary came up bif for the Greyhounds with 19 points each. The Greyhounds played Thursday without the services of leading scorer Karla Mast, who was scratched from the lineup at pregame. SIUE returns to the Vadalabene Center Saturday for a 1 p.m. game Saturday against Saint Joseph's. -siue- |
