SIUE Overwhelms Rockhurst 70-41
         KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Whitney Sykes led all scorers with 18 points Thursday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville cruised to a 70-41 women's Great Lakes Valley Conference basketball game at Rockhurst.
           The Cougars moved into a tie for the lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division with Missouri S&T (previously Missouri-Rolla). Both teams are 3-1 in league play. SIUE, 10-2 overall, next travels to No. 8-ranked Drury (11-2, 3-2 GLVC) Saturday at 3 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
           On Thursday, the Cougars had little trouble with Rockhurst, now 4-8 overall and 0-4 in the GLVC. The Hawks shot just 19.2 percent in the first half (5 of 26) and fell behind 31-16 by halftime.
           Sykes powered SIUE with four three-pointers and shot 7 of 10 from the field overall. Her 18 points and seven rebounds were tops for the Cougars.
           Amber Shelton and Brittany Imig joined Sykes in double figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Imig was a perfect 4 for 4 from the field, hitting both of her three-point attempts, in her 13 minutes of playing time.
           The Cougars played unselfish on offense, collecting 20 assists led by seven from Amy Austin. Elyse Morris also pulled in a team-high four steals on defense.
           The Hawks shot slightly better in the second half at 33.3 percent but could match the Cougars, which ended up hitting an even 50 percent for the game. Rockhurst's Amy Hake and Julie Cook provided 10 points each. Meghan Hurley added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
