October 4, 2008 Quinnipiac Boxscore Chicago State Boxscore SIUE Dominates Quinnipiac, Chicago State CHICAGO, Ill. - After posting it best performance of the season Friday, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wasted little time for a curtain call. The Cougars, now 5-7, overpowered the Quinnipiac Bobcats 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 in Saturday's action at the Chicago State Tournament. SIUE also defeated host Chicago State 25-17, 25-20, 25-12. Mallory Clements and Emily Rahn were named to the All-Tournament team. "I thought we had a good last two weeks. We've been playing well but didn't have anything to show for it," said SIUE coach Todd Gober. SIUE won three matches, sweeping the Cougar Invitational. SIUE hit an incredible .481 for the Quinnipiac match, which is the second best hitting percentage in school history. The school record was set in 2003 when the Cougars hit .529 against Kentucky Wesleyan. Senior middle hitter Kelsey Hubert set the tone for the Cougars with seven kills on seven attacks for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Brittni Birkey had seven kills on 11 attacks for a .636 hitting percentage. Samantha Schulte led SIUE with nine kills and a .538 hitting percentage. "Our middle hitters played very well, and we're getting much more production from our outside hitters," Gober said. Gober went directly to his bench for much of the day. All 14 SIUE players saw action in at least two sets of the Quinnipiac match. Quinnipiac posted a .110 hitting percentage, an improvement from set one when the Bobcats finished with six kills and six attack errors for a .000 hitting percentage.
