October 5, 2007 No. 18 SIUE Holds Off Pesky UW-Parkside          EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Samantha Schulte pounded a team-high 19 kills Friday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville edged UW-Parkside in five games 30-27, 24-30, 27-30, 30-27, 15-5.          Schulte's .389 hitting percentage was a plus for the 18th-ranked Cougars, which struggled against a pesky UW-Parkside defense. SIUE committed 31 errors in the match. UW-Parkside, however, turned in 34 attack errors.          SIUE, 15-5 overall and 8-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, had to battle from being two games to one behind to avoid a third consecutive loss. The Cougars battled with Mallory Clements turning in anotehr triple double of 10 kills, 46 assists and a team-high 23 digs.          Kelsey Hubert, Kate Hofeldt, and Emily Rahn each turned in 11 kills apiece for the Cougars.          The Cougars came out strong in game one with 18 kills. It would be attack errors and service errors which would hamper the Cougars throughout the match. SIUE committed 12 service errors.          UW-Parkside lit up the Cougars for 14 service aces, including six from Katie Krohn.          UWP's offense was led by 16 kills from Jennifer Johnson.          SIUE roared back after losing games two and three to take game four 27-30. UWP would have just one kill in game five to SIUE's eight.          SIUE returns to the court Saturday at 3 p.m. against Lewis, which defeated the Cougars in the championship match of the 2006 GLVC Tournament in the two teams' last meeting. Like Friday's match, the match will be played at Edwardsville High School due to the SIUE Athletics Hall of Fame at the Vadalabene Center.                   -siue cougars-
