Five Named NFCA All-Region
         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Five Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball players were awarded All-Region honors by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
         Kaitlin Colosimo (Orland Park), now 27-5 after winning the team's opener in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament, was the lone Cougar named to the first team. The 2007 third team All-American leads the GLVC in wins and is now No. 2 on the all-time strikeouts list at SIUE with 525.
         SIUE, which holds a record of 46-9 under Coach Sandy Montgomery, also had four other players named to the All-Region team as voted by the coaches of the Great Lakes Region. Among the list were Cougar first baseman Mallory Ruggles (Nashville), shortstop Kaeleigh Rousey (Bloomington), third baseman Lauren Zembruski (Minooka), and outfielder Nicole Beecher (Blue Springs, Mo.).
         Ruggles leads the team in home runs with nine and is batting .338. The Cougar senior also posted an impressive .990 fielding percentage.
         Rousey, also a senior, is second in hitting at .362 and leads the team in hits with 55. Her eight home runs is second on the team while her slugging percentage of .605 clearly leads the team.
         Zembruski, a sophomore, is batting .338 with three home runs and 22 RBIs. She leads the team in stolen bases with 21.
         Beecher climbed into the cleanup role in the lineup and thrived with a .358 batting average. Her 31 runs scored is tied for third on the team.
