May 7, 2008 Colosimo Named Daktronics Regional Pitcher of the Year Kaitlin Colosimo earned first team All-Region honors Wednesday and also was named the region's Pitcher of the Year by Daktronics. SIUE shortsop Kaeleigh Rousey also was named second team All-Region after helping the Cougars win their last 18 games of the season. Colosimo, 26-5, has struck out 210 batters in 193 1/3 innings pitched. She also has walked just 26 batters in that same time frame. The Cougar junior led the Cougars to their third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference crown and the team's ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Rousey, a senior, leads the Cougars in hits with 55 and is second on the squad with eight home runs. Players from 18 different schools were recognized on the Daktronics, Inc. 2008 All-Great Lakes Region Softball Team in a vote by the region’s sports information directors. Missouri S&T’s senior third baseman Kelsey Musselman was selected as the Great Lakes Region Player of the Year. Joining Musselman and Colosimo on the first team was Bellarmine’s Kim Locke (Sr., 1B); Missouri S&T’s Kandi Wieberg (Sr., 2B) and Emily Tucker (Jr., OF); Lewis’s Kelly Dianis (Jr., SS), Mallory Paine (Sr., C), and Courtney Lyons (Jr., P); Southern Indiana’s Sara Loete (So., DP); Gannon’s Kara Hensley (Jr., UT); Indianapolis’s Jessica Breeden (So., OF); Mercyhurst’s Jessica McNurlen (Sr., OF); and Wayne State’s Molly Yetman (Sr., P). Yetman, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, was the Daktronics Great Lakes Pitcher of the Year in 2007. The second team consisted of Ferris State’s Amanda Jager (Jr., 1B); Grand Valley State’s Kristin Moleski (Sr., 2B) and Elizabeth Smith (Sr., DP); Southern Indiana’s Kristin Eickholt (Sr., 3B) and Kathy Wood (Sr., OF); Shepherd’s Stephanie Sims (Sr., 3B); SIU Edwardsville’s Kaeleigh Rousey (Sr., SS); Alderson-Broaddus’s Ashley Mooney (Sr., C); Wisconsin-Parkside’s Amanda Miller (Jr., OF); Tiffin’s Tiffany Smith (Fr., OF); Quincy’s Torie Bunzell (Fr., P); Saginaw Valley State’s Stacy Kraatz (Jr., P), and West Virginia Wesleyan’s Stephanie Wheeler (Jr., P).
