EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Kyler Updyke, a three-time collegiate All-American in men's tennis, has been named the Associate Head Coach for the men's and women's tennis programs at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Updyke was a doubles All-American in 1992 and 1993 at SIUE, as well as a singles All-American in 1995.
"Kyler will bring the technical expertise needed to raise our competitive level," said SIUE men's and women's tennis Head Coach Bryan Belt.
Belt said Updyke also will help in all aspects of the two programs, including recruiting, on-court practices and scheduling.
Updyke was an assistant coach at SIUE during the 1997-1998 and the 2005-2006 seasons. He also served as a tennis instructor at several area tennis facilities from 1993-2002, including Gaslight Bath and Tennis, Kettle River Racquet Club, Sunset Hills Country Club, and Lipe Tennis.
As a player, Updyke was a dual threat in singles and doubles for the Cougars. Nationally-ranked for nine years as a United States Tennis Association (USTA) junior, he also was a member of the Junior Davis Cup team.
Updyke earned a bachelor of science in geography in 1998. He most recently worked for Petra Industries in Fairmount City, Ill., as a Product Manager.
