Warner Tabbed All-Conference
Matt Warner (Arlington Hts.) was named a Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Conference performer last weekend at the GLVC Men’s Tennis Championships in Indianapolis.
Warner, a sophomore, has played in the No. 1 singles spot for the Cougars this season. He finished the year with an overall record of 10-10.
“Matt was one of the top players in the conference,” Coach Bill Logan said. “He handled himself well all year at No. 1 singles.”
As a team, the Cougars advanced to the second round of the GLVC Tournament after defeating Bellarmine in round one. The Cougars were eliminated from the tournament by eventual champion Northern Kentucky.
Overall, the Cougars finish 9-10 on the season and 4-4 in the GLVC. Justin Free (Danville) led the team with a 14-7 record, which included a team-high six victories against GLVC opponents. Chris Rigdon (Glen Carbon) ended the year second on the team with 13 victories.
“I was pleased with the individual play and our effort as a team,” Logan said. “We are losing just one senior, Doug Kummer (Fenton, Mo.), so things are looking promising.”
