Men’s Tennis Opens Season at Principia
SIUE begins the 2002 spring season with a four-team tournament at Principia.
The Cougars join Principia, Jefferson Junior College and Truman State at the indoor tournament, which runs Friday and Saturday in Elsah.
The singles portion of the tournament will be split into three divisions with No. 1 and No. 2 players in the first division, No. 3 and No. 4 players in the second division and No. 5 and No. 6 players in the third division. There also is doubles play scheduled.
SIUE’s lineup features Heath Turpin (Swansea), Francisco Perez (Bogata, Columbia), Andy Renner (Belleville), Doug Kummer (Fenton, Mo.), Mike Schmidt (Centralia), Chris Rigdon (Glen Carbon).
The Cougars’ first dual meet of the season is scheduled for home on Mar. 2 against Wayne State (Mich.).
