SIUE's Bishop, UIndy's Helm Earn Men's Track & Field Weekly Honors
          INDIANAPOLIS - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Ben Bishop (Cantrall, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week and the University of Indianapolis' Freddie Helms (Chicago, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
          Bishop, a freshman for the Cougars, notched a NCAA Division II provisional mark in the hammer throw at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Meet hosted by Western Illinois over the weekend.
          In the event, Bishop posted a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 53.20 meters.
          In addition, Bishop also posted a personal best in the discus where he placed sixth with a throw of 44.49 meters.
          He currently ranks fourth in the GLVC in the hammer throw and discus this season.
          SIU Edwardsville will next travel to the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday.
          Helms, a junior sprinter for the Greyhounds, set a new school-record in the 100-meter dash prelims at the Indiana Intercollegiates over the weekend with a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 10.46.It is the third-fastest time among NCAA Division II athletes this year.
          Helms also posted a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.77. The effort was the third fastest in school history.
          He also anchored the second-place 4x100-meter relay team at the event helping the Greyhounds to a second-place finish at the meet.
          Helms' times in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash are the best in the GVLC this outdoor season.
          UIndy will next compete in the Cardinal Invite in Louisville on Saturday.
          Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine's Elliot Mattingly and Joey Blue, Drury's Steven Busch and UIndy's Tristen Rogers.
