Six Entered at Nationals
        EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Six Southern Illinois University Edwardsville student-athletes will be competing Friday-Saturday, March 14-15 at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Mankato, Minn.
        Kyle Rose (Kankakee) and Scott Block (Hanover Park) both will be competing in two events. Rose also leads a group that enters the meet as one of the top threats in the 1,600-meter relay.
        Rose, a senior, also races in the 400-meter dash preliminaries on Friday at 5:45 p.m. The finals for the event is 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Rose, who has the third fastest time entering the national meet, was an All-American in the event at the two previous national indoor meets.
        Block, a junior, competes in the weight throw on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and the shot put at 10 a.m. Saturday. Blocks holds the sixth best throw in the nation in both events entering the meet.
        Chris Littleton (Champaign), Chris Wright (Richton Park), Alphonso Shepherd (Huber Heights) join Rose on the 1,600-meter relay team. Marcus Evans (Skokie) also will travel as an alternate for the event.
        SIUE is coming off its third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championship victory. The GLVC announced All-Conference honors.
        SIUE placed 12 on the first team and one on the second team. The first team includes Rose, Evans, Block, Wright, Littleton, Jeremy Puckett (Fairfield), Wasim Walker (Cahokia), Mike Isbell (Fairview Heights), Nicholas Harold (Urbana), Shawn Dillard (Granite City), Aaron Wilson (Chicago), and Brian Getz (East Moline). Erik Steffens (Moline) was named to All-GLVC second team.
        The Cougars won the meet by 80 points over Indianapolis.
