January 19, 2008 Block Breaks Records Again at EIU Open         CHARLESTON, Ill. - Scott Block (Hanover Park) broke two SIUE records as he and the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's track team participated in the EIU Panther Open this past weekend.         Already automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships because of his previous week's shot put of 17.42 meters, Block pushed his mark even further by tossing the weight an impressive 17.46 meters and rewrote the SIUE record books while collecting a first place finish..         Derek Rensing (Granite City) placed sixth with his throw of 14.82 meters in the shot put.         SIUE's Ben Bishop (Cantrall) and Mark Abboreno (Vernon Hills) finished fourth and sixth in the weight throw with marks of 16.23 meters and 15.22 meters. Block moved himself closer to automatically qualifying for NCAAs by hurling the weight 18.91 meters, setting yet another SIUE record and winning the event. The automatic qualifying mark is 19.00 meters.         Maurice Hewitt of the Untouchables took first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.05. Chris Littleton (Champaign) and Chris Wright (Chicago) finished 7th and 8th for SIUE. Both runners finished with a time of 22.88.         Wright and Littleton captured two of the top three spots in the 400-meter dash for the Cougars. With a time of 49.83, Wright secured first place and became the season leader for the Cougars. Littleton came in third with his time of 50.11.         The Cougars will next now turn their attention to the Illinois College Snow Bird Open in Jackson, Ill. The meet begins at noon on January 26th.                 -siue cougars-
