Rose Earns All-American Status
With a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, Kyle Rose (Kankakee) earned All-American honors.
The SIUE junior ran the 400-meter dash in 48.28 seconds.
"Kyle had a race strategy and executed it perfectly. I think Kyle would have ran a bit faster if he'd had somebody to chase in his heat," said SIUE men's track and field coach Dave Astrauskas. The finals were run as two heats.
Rose's accomplishment marked the fourth time he has been named All-American.
Scott Block (Hanover Park) was the other Cougar to compete in the men's championships.
The shot putter placed 12th overall with his throw of 15.84 meters (51 feet, 11.75 inches). Block fell around two feet short of reaching All-American status.
"Scott did not have one of his better days. Hopefully, he can rebound and have a great outdoor season. The national meet is completely different than any other meet, Scott will now know what to expect the next time he competes at a NCAA Division II meet," said Astrauskas.
SIUE will start its outdoor season Mar. 31 at the Missouri Relays in Columbia, Mo.
