February 13, 2007 Block Sets Weight Throw Mark EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Led by a school record shot put by Scott Block (Hanover Park) of 16.74 meters (54 feet, 11.25 inches), the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's track and field team was very successful at the Hoosier Hills Invitational over the weekend. "Scott has had his mind on the school record since our first meet of the season," said SIUE men's track and field coach David Astrauskas. "Scott had a very good series in the shot this weekend and is capable of an additional two feet." Other successful Cougars included Black Marcum (Centralia), who ran a 4:13.71 in the mile. "Blake competed real well this weekend by winning his heat and running a provisional (NCAA Indoor Championships) time. Blake's time was a personal best. He has dropped his time in the mile considerably from the beginning of the year," said Astrauskas. Jonathan Bannister (Plano, Texas) also had a successful weekend for the Cougars while improving his time in the 400-meter dash to a 48.83. "Jonathan dropped his 400m time by a couple of hundredths of a second. He will need to drop his time a little more to get in to the national meet," said Astrauskas. SIUE will turn its attention to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships this Saturday in Crawfordsville, Ind. -siue cougars- |
