February 13, 2007 Cougars Dominate Blue Classic The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's track and field team dominated the Blue Classic at Illinois College over the weekend. Scott Block (Hanover Park) won the weight throw for the Cougars with a distance of 55 feet, 2.75 inches (16.83 meters). "Scott is continuing to get a better idea of how to throw the weight. He gets better with each throw," said SIUE men's track and field coach David Astrauskas. Brian Taghon (East Moline) dominated the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 49.93. He was ahead of the second-place finisher by 55 seconds. "Brian ran a real fast time. I was happy that he was able to have such a strong time knowing he didn't have anyone pushing him," said Astrauskas. Next up for the Cougars will be the Indiana Invitational Saturday in Bloomington, Ind. -siue cougars- |
