Bannister, Rose Set School Records
Jonathan Bannister (Plano, Tx.) and Kyle Rose (Kankakee) each set a new school record for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's track and field team over the weekend at the Hoosier Relays.
Bannister set a new school record while winning the 600-meter run with a time of 1:19.67.
"Jonathan is competing well this year and for him to win an event in a meet of that caliber is just incredible. Jonathan has been training hard all year, and it is nice to see his efforts pay off with a school record," said men's track and field coach David Astrauskas.
Rose also set a new school record for SIUE in the 400-meter dash with his time of 47.95 seconds.
"Kyle continues to drop his 400-meter time every week, and his performance this weekend was very impressive. I know Kyle has bigger goals this year, and this was a major step in the right direction," said Astrauskas.
Two-time All-American Anthony Weber (Marengo) also had a good weekend with a pole vault of 4.90 meters that provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.
"Anthony tied his indoor career best this weekend, and he is on his way to higher heights in the future," said Astrauskas.
Blake Marcum (Centralia) also came in strong for the Cougars, posting a new personal best mile time of 4:17.15.
"Blake ran real well this weekend and hopefully a provisional time is right around the corner," said Astrauskas. Marcum needs to slice only a few seconds more off his most recent time to accomplish that goal.
The men's 1,600-meter relay team of Kyle Rose, Chris Littleton (Champaign), Jonathan Bannister and Chris Wright (Richton Park) also improved their national provisional qualifying time to 3:16.37.
"This meet was a great meet for us. We had a lot of outstanding performances against some quality Division I programs," said Astrauskas.
The Cougars will compete next in the Blue Classic on Saturday in Jacksonville.
