20 Questions for Taghon Favorite Edwardsville restaurant: La Fonda Favorite TV Show: Does sportscenter count? If not, Grey's Anatomy. I never miss it. Favorite Movie: Without Limits of course Favorite Actor/Actress: Tom Hanks If a movie were made about you, which actor would you want to play the part of you? Billy Crudup (he played Pre in Without Limits... I figure he's already got the running thing down) Favorite Musical Group/Singer: Counting Crows by far. Favorite Sport Other than Track and Field: Baseball. What is your major and why? Business Administration with a specialization in CMIS and Finance because I like computers(a little) and love numbers. Favorite Place on Campus: the running trails Something the average person doesn't know about me: I'm engaged If you had to give up all your possessions but one, what would you keep? The June 15, 1970 Sports Illustrated with Pre on the cover that my incredible girlfriend got me for my last birthday. Best gift EVER. If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? Someone who can dunk a basketball. As it is shaping up, I think that'd be the only way I'll ever throw one down on a 10 foot hoop. I'll say Lebron James. Who has influenced you the most in your life? My dad, my grandpa, and my uncle Mark are the 3 male figures in my life whose footsteps I've always tried to follow. If you've ever met them, you'd know why. Great guys. Name three people, (dead or alive) that you would like to have dinner with: Derek Jeter, Michael Jordan, and Brett Favre. Why did you choose to come to SIUE? I had a great visit and thought I'd fit in with the team. The campus is amazing too. Lots of places to run. Little did I know that by the time I was leaving this place, it'd be a D-2 powerhouse in track and field. How different are practices at SIUE compared to your high school? High school was a long time ago. For one, the mileage is a lot higher. And there's always a group of guys to run with on OD days. Do you have any superstitions before competing? I used to listen to a certain song while getting stretched and putting my spikes on. Now, I've realized that none of that matters. It's not a superstition, but I just try to be focused and mentally tough. I know that my training has been done, and the rest will just fall into place. Which teammate is most likely to be a head coach one day? Trae Cotner. I'll go out on a limb and say he'll be head coach of a Footlocker qualifier in the near future. He's got the goods. Maybe he can coach me when I'm out of school and running marathons. The best things about SIUE track and field are: One thing sticks out, and it needs some explaining. There are 3 groups on the team: Sprinters, Throwers, and Distance. We practice separately, and for the most part hang out with our separate groups away from the track. This is unavoidable in a sport like this. The best thing about SIUE track and field, however, is when conference time rolls around and everyone puts all their efforts together to cheer each other on and perform, not for themselves, but for the good of the SIUE TEAM. That's why we straight up BEAT people at conference year in and year out, and that's why SIUE track and field isn't going anywhere for a long time. |
