July 19, 2006 SIUE Men's and Women's Track and Field Honored by USTFCCCA EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's track team has been honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for its academic achievement. The SIUE men's team was among 23 NCAA Division II institutions with a team grade point average of better than 3.0. Nine individuals on the men's and women's track and field teams also were named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, an individual athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and must have met an NCAA Division II national qualifying standard in any event. SIUE's winners include javelin national champion Holly Noller (Pawnee), Julia Scherer (Sumner), and Kimetha Williams (Bellevue, Neb.) on the women's team. On the men's team, All-American pole vaulter Anthony Weber (Marengo), All-American javelin thrower Phil Freimuth (Effingham), Ben Willard (Manito), Cody Ellermeyer (DuQuoin), Dustin Bilbruck (Gillespie), and Jonathan Bannister (Plano, Texas) were named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA. -siue cougars- |
