Block Signs With SIUE Men’s Track and Field
        EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Former state shot put champion Scott Block (Hanover Park) has signed a national letter of intent to join the men’s track and field program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
        “I am very excited Scott has chosen SIUE. He is a great athlete who will definitely help out our men’s track program,” said SIUE men’s track and field coach Dave Astrauskas.
        Block won the state shot put title in 2003 at the Class AA Championships for Lake Park High School. While at the College of DuPage, Block was named 2005 NJCAA Men’s Field Event Athlete of the Year after earning multiple All-American honors.
        Block has posted very impressive shot put marks in his career, having thrown the 12-pound shot put a distance of 62 feet, 3 inches and the 16-pound shot put 54-2. Block also has a personal best collegiate discus mark of 165-11.
        “Scott should have an immediate impact in multiple events at the national Division II level,” said Astrauskas. “Scott is a tremendous talent, and I look forward to his development in the shot put as well as the other throws.”
