Jonathan Bannister Cougar Classic Results

April 16, 2005 Bannister Breaks Old 400 Meter Record         Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Jonathan Bannister (Plano, Texas) broke the 400-meter record previously set in 1985 with a time of 47.93 at Saturday's Cougar Classic at Korte Stadium.         Bannister's record was previously held by Kettrell Berry, who set a mark of 48.02 in the event. Bannister's time also was good enough to put him on the NCAA provisional qualifying list for the event.         Lee Weeden (Ferguson, Mo.) bettered his NCAA provisional qualiftying mark in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 3.25 inches. It also was a school record.         SIUE won the track meet with a score of 258.5 points, eclipsing Greenville which finished second with 148 points.         -siue cougars-
