Ed Huneke SIUE Head Coach Ed Huneke
          Head Coach Ed Huneke, a graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, knows how hard work pays off. And he expects as much from his players.
          Huneke enters his 22nd season at the helm of SIUE’s soccer squad. SIUE has played in three consecutive Great Lakes Region title games and has advanced to the national semifinals in three out of the last five seasons. The Cougars played for the national title in 2004. Under Huneke, SIUE also posted a streak of 38 consecutive regular season Great Lakes Valley Conference games without a loss, from 2002 to 2006.
          Huneke, only the second men’s soccer coach in SIUE’s storied history, has a career record of 240-151-31.
          In 2006, John Matthews was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Matthews also earned All-American honors. Mike Banner joined the long list of professional players, signing with the Chicago Sting.
          Huneke was named the GLVC and the NCAA-II Midwest Regional Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2005. His 1997 team also helped Huneke garner the same honors after winning the GLVC title.
          The Cougar mentor began his collegiate coaching career as the founder and head coach at Lewis and Clark Community College, a post he held for 11 years before returning to his alma mater. At LCCC, Huneke led the Bucks to six trips to the national tournament, including four Final Four berths and a second-place finish at the 1982 National Junior College Championships.
          A three-time Midwest Coach of the Year at LCCC, his teams claimed seven Midwest Regional titles, seven Illinois state championships, bronze medals at the national championships in 1983 and 1984, and a fourth-place finish at the 1985 tourney.
          Huneke earned a bachelor’s degree from SIUE in 1971 and a master’s of business administration from Saint Louis University in 1975. A past president of the SIUE Alumni Association, Huneke and his wife, Linda, have three children, Justin, Sean and Angela.
Kevin Kalish Assistant Coach Kevin Kalish

        Kevin Kalish opens his eighth year as an assistant coach for the men¹s soccer Cougars. Kalish brings a wealth of soccer talent and coaching experience to the Cougars.
                Kalish, who also holds the position of Director of Soccer Operations with the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, is a graduate of Saint Louis University, where he was a GTE Academic All-American and First Team NSCAA All-American for the soccer team. In 1999, he was named Saint Louis University¹s Most Outstanding Male Athlete and played in the National College Senior All-Star Bowl. He was Conference USA Player of the Year in his senior season at SLU. He was also a First team All-Midwest and All-Conference selection during his junior and senior seasons at SLU where he led the Billikens to the NCAA Soccer Final Four. He was also twice named All-Big East while at Connecticut.
                He has been drafted by three professional soccer teams. In 1998, he was drafted by the St. Louis Ambush of the National Professional Soccer League and, in 1999, he was drafted by both the Nashville Metros of the United Soccer League and was the 3rd pick of the Kansas City Wizards in the MLS Super Draft.
                Kalish, who recently was named to SLU's Athletic Hall of Fame, has been coaching since he left the field at SLU. In 1999, he joined the SLU coaching staff as a second assistant and then joined Coach Huneke and the Cougar staff the following year.
        Kalish earned a bachelor¹s degree from SLU in 1999 and master¹s degree in Kinesiology from SIUE in August 2006. Kalish and his wife, Sarah, have one child, Sam.
Duane Kloepple Assistant Coach Duane Kloepple

        Duane Kloepple begins his ninth season on the SIUE staff as a volunteer coach.
        Kloepple is a goalkeeper specialist and has been a major reason for the improvements in goal for the COugars.
        A 1983 graduate of Rollins (Fla.) College with bachelor's degrees in economics and business administration, Kloepple was a standout goalkeeper for the Tars.
        He remains active in soccer as a goalkeeper coach for several teams in the Busch Soccer Club and the Metro Football Club. Kloepple, a graduate of St. Louis' DuBourg High School, resides in St. Louis.
