SIUE Cruises Past USI 4-2
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Bob Ridder and Kevin Bielicki each scored twice as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team cruised to a 4-2 victory over Southern Indiana Sunday at Korte Stadium.
In their second home match of the season, the Cougars, 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play defeated fellow GLVC opponent Southern Indiana (now 3-3, 1-2).
Just more than seven minutes into the contest, Ridder (Quincy) scored his first goal of the season from six yards out in front of the goal. Assisting Ridder with the goals was Adam Lanter (Edwardsville) and Ryan Wilhelm (St. Louis).
Michael Simcock (Greater Manchester, England) of Southern Indiana scored his first goal of the season against SIUE goalie Greg Crook (Columbia) less than a minute later on a penalty kick.
Less than another minute later, Bielicki converted a pass from Matt Harris (St. Charles) into a Cougar goal to give the Cougars the lead again at 2-1.
Putting the game out of reach, Ridder was able to score his second goal of the season and match. Lanter was credited with the assist.
Not to be out done, Bielicki took a pass from Myles Hensler (Maryville) and put it into the back of the net at 78:29.
Finishing off the scoring for both teams, Evan Stoll (Washington, Ind.) scored his first goal of the season at the 85:29 mark. Nate Sloan (Oittsboro, Ind.) was credited with the assist.
Once again splitting time in goal, Greg Crook and Scott Meyer were able to combine for the victory. Neither player had a save as the only two shots USI put on goal were goals.
SIUE heads to Springfield, Mo., Friday to take on Drury. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
