SIUE Splashes KWC 5-0
          EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer welcomed the rain and a five-goal victory Friday.
          The Cougars, 1-1, won its home opener and Great Lakes Valley Conference season debut at Korte Stadium 5-0 over Kentucky Wesleyan, 0-3-1.
          Dustin Attarian (St. Louis) and Myles Hensler (Maryville, Mo.) teamed up just less than six minutes into the match to collect their first goal and assist of the season, respectively.
          Only two minutes later, Matt Budenholzer (St. Louis) put a 15-yard strike into the top left corner just out of the Kentucky Wesleyan goalkeeper Andrew Minton's outstretched arms.
          Not to be left out of the scoring action, Benny Jeffery (Florissant) was able to collect a loose ball and put it into the net for his first goal of the season just 34 seconds into the second half.
          At the 65-minute mark, Bob Ridder (Quincy) made a pass to Kevin Bielicki to give Bielicki his first goal of the season.
          Finishing off the scoring for the SIUE, Matt Harris (St. Charles) connected with Attarian to give him his second goal of the match and season. Splitting time in goal, Greg Crook and Scott Meyer combined to get the shutout for the Cougars.
          SIUE returns to action Sunday as it take on Southern Indiana. Start time for the match is 2:30 p.m.
