Junior Midfielder Keys Two Wins for Cougars
Indianapolis, Ind. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Ross Beveridge (Dunfermline, Scotland) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior midfielder played a pivotal role in the Cougars’ two wins last week.
Beveridge collected two assists in SIU Edwardsville’s 5-0 win at Missouri-Rolla on Oct. 11. He assisted on Rob Ridder’s goal in the 64th minute and followed less than three minutes later with a key assist on Mike Zaegel’s goal at the 65:07 mark.
In SIU Edwardsville’s 1-0 win at Truman State on Oct. 15, Beveridge scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute. Following a restart, he buried an unassisted shot in the top right corner of the net from 23 yards out.
He now has five goals and two assists on the year with all of his offensive production coming in the Cougars’ current eight-game winning streak.
SIU Edwardsville clinched the GLVC Tournament No. 1 seed and regular season title for the fourth consecutive year with the win over Missouri-Rolla. The Cougars, ranked eighth in last week’s NSCCA/adidas NCAA Division II national rankings, have posted five straight shutouts and are 11-3-3 overall. They completed the conference schedule with a 10-2-1 record.
