Cougars Post Fifth Straight Shutout
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The No. 8-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer headed to the postseason Sunday with its fifth consecutive shutout behind a 1-0 win at Truman State.
The non-conference victory gives SIUE an 11-3-3 record heading into the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. SIUE secured the No. 1 seed last weekend and found out late Sunday that its GLVC quarterfinal opponent will be Missouri-St. Louis. The game date and time will be finalized Monday.
SIUE's defense shined once again, holding Truman to just six shots. SIUE goalkeeper Nicholas Frasca made one save in the second half.
Ross Beveridge provided the game-winning goal off a restart at 73:10. Beveridge netted the ball in the right top corner past Truman goalkeeper Ryan Farrar.
SIUE finished with 14 shots, including three each from Mike Banner and Kevin Bielicki.
