Cougars Overpower Quincy 4-0
QUINCY - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team welcomed the week with a No. 9 national ranking and handed Quincy a 4-0 loss.
SIUE, 7-3-3 overall and 7-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, grabbed a share of conference lead with the victory. SIUE is tied with UW-Parkside. Both teams are one-half game ahead of Northern Kentucky for the race to be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament.
SIUE dominated play in the first half with a 14-4 edge on shots. However, neither team scored as the halftime horn sounded.
The Cougars came out firing goals in the second half. Mike Banner fired a 20-yard shot off a free kick at 51:31 which scored past Quincy goalkeeper Kyle Dillman.
Ross Beveridge added SIUE's second goal at 54:59 with an assist to Dustin Attarian.
After an own goal was scored for the Cougars at 77:09, Matt Harris connected with Bob Ridder to complete the game's scoring.
SIUE now returns home for homecoming weekend. SIUE faces Indianapolis Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saint Joseph's at noon Sunday. The Jack Blake Award will be given Brian Higgins during halftime of Sunday's game.
