SIUE Soccer Looks to Continue Winning Ways on The Road
The 21st-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team rose to the occasion Sunday in its win over No. 6-ranked Drury.
"It was a must win," said SIUE men's soccer coach Ed Huneke.
"The manner in which we won included good position and good penetration on goal. That exemplified the style we like to play," added Huneke.
Cougar seniors John Matthews (Edwardsville), Victor Pacheco (Brazil) and Kevin Thibodeau (St. Charles) all stepped up in the Cougars' win, said Huneke.
On Friday, the Cougars start a three-game road trip at Southern Indiana then traveling to Kentucky Wesleyan and Quincy.
"On paper these teams do not rank as high as we do, but the games are won on the field and not on paper," cautioned Huneke.
Huneke believes that the key to winning for the Cougars is to play at a high level every game regardless of who the Cougars face.
The Cougars, 4-3-3 overall and 4-2-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, meet Southern Indiana Friday at 5 p.m. in Evansville, Ind.
