#21 Cougars Stun #6 Drury 2-0
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer handed Drury its first loss of the season Sunday with a 2-0 triumph at Korte Stadium.
SIUE, ranked No. 21 in the NSCAA/NCAA Division II coaches poll, dominated play in outshooting the No. 6-ranked Panthers 15-5.
The Cougars scored early as as Randy Roy connected from five yards out on a pass by Bob Ridder. The time of the goal was 10:36.
SIUE didn't leave any doubts with a second-half goal from Kevin Thibodeau. Victor Pacheco started the play 30 yards out on the left side with a pass to the right side of the goal to Kevin Bielicki, who softly centered the ball. Thibodeau headed the ball in the net past Drury goalkeeper Michael Lassen.
Greg Crook collected the shutout and needed to make just one save.
SIUE also had a chance for a third goal on a penalty kick in the second half, but play continued when Thibodeau cleared the ball well over the goal.
SIUE improved to 4-3-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury now stands at 8-1-3 overall and 5-1-1 in the GLVC. The loss knocked Drury out of the lead in the league standings.
