SIUE is Ready to Play Stong at Home
After a split on the road, the No. 13-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team looks to improve its record at home.
The Cougars won their first game of the weekend against seventh-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside 2-1 with two goals by Dustin Attarian (St. Louis). Attarian is now the team's leading scorer with three goals and an assist.
The Cougars then lost on Sunday to a strong Lewis University team.
"These were both very good teams that play good soccer," said SIUE men's soccer coach Ed Huneke. "We played well in both games, and we could have lost both of them or won both of them."
In their loss Sunday, the Cougars outshot Lewis 14-7 in the second half.
"We created good combinations that led to good shots, but couldn't penetrate their line," said Huneke.
The Cougars play next Friday at Korte Stadium versus Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m. They will then face Drury at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Korte Stadium.
"These are both good teams that are having success. They will both be gunning for us so we need to have our 'A' game ready," added Huneke.
