No. 1 Fort Lewis Drops Cougars 4-0
DENVER, COLO. -- It was a slow and frustrating start for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team.
The Cougars, ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA Division II poll, were defeated by No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Fort Lewis 4-0. There were a total of 10 cards in the game, including red cards from SIUE defenders Kevin Thibodeau and Randy Roy.
Fort Lewis recorded 13 shots in the game and scored two of its goals when the Cougars were two players short. John Cunliffe scored unassisted at 14:10 in the only goal Fort Lewis would need. David Bardon scored twice while Kieran hall added a first-half goal.
SIUE managed eight shots in the game played at the Denver Kickers Club in Denver, Colo.
The Cougars, which will play Sunday without Thibodeau and Roy, will face 12th-ranked Colorado Mines in a noon matchup in Golden, Colo.
